Let’s get a clear insight into the mind of a teetotaler person attending a get together overflowing with booze. His priority is to not have his well-meaning buddies shove booze down his throat. But how can he do this when he’s the only one drinking something as staid and boring as lemonade. What he needs is a glass that’s complete with a twisty straw, a miniature umbrella, a wedge of pineapple and all the visual trappings you can dream off.
For the sober drunk, here are some lip-smacking mocktails that will get you in the mood and keep your buddies happy.
Cherry Bomb Mocktail
The ‘bomb’ in the name is not bragging, it’s informing. There’s little you will need:
- 1-litre lemon lime soda
- 120 ml grenadine
- Juice from 1 lime (approx 2 tbsp)
- 4 maraschino cherries to garnish
Mix soda, grenadine and lime juice in a glass and stir. Garnish the mixture with cherries.
Lemon Blueberry Colada
A drink so cool it may even give your cocktails a competition. Make it with:
- 8 parts lemonade
- 2 parts light coconut milk
- 1 part grenadine
- Frozen blueberries
Mix the above in a glass and serve chilled.
One of the most popular and most loved mocktails. Make it with:
- 1 part grenadine
- 8 parts ginger ale
- Maraschino cherries
Add 4 tablespoons of grenadine to half a litre of ginger ale. Garnish with maraschino cherries. Serve chilled!
Asian Pear Sparkler
It won’t hurt to toil a bit for your non-alcoholic friends, would it? Go for this:
- 1 cup fresh pear juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 3/4 cups honey
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 (4-inch) spring fresh rosemary
- 1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and cut into coins
- Small grating of fresh nutmeg
- Soda water
Combine the ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and then let it stand on low heat for 5 minutes, stirring continuously. Let the syrup cool for half an hour and then strain through a fine-mesh strainer. To serve, fill a 250ml glass halfway with ice, add 3 tablespoons of syrup and fill up with soda water.
Cranberry Apple Mocktail
Basically, this is a mixture of a few juices and sodas. Going into detail what you’ll need is:
- 60 ml cranberry juice
- 30 ml apple cider
- 30 ml orange juice
- 45 ml dry ginger soda
- 60 ml juniper soda
- Frozen cranberries, apple slices to garnish
Now mix all these over ice and stir. Garnish the drink with apple slices and frozen cranberries.
And now you are ready to host a fun-for-all party. Let your alcoholic friends drink till they drop and non-alcoholic ones sip till they sleep. Not only will your party be a success, but the next one too will be the most awaited one.
