“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love”. – Marcus Aurelius
Stress makes the body and the mind tense which can inspire a flood of unhealthy decisions. The stress and strain of constantly being connected to the world can sometimes take your life and your well-being.On this Stress Awareness Day, take these steps that will lead to a happier, healthier you.
Eat a power breakfast: Your body needs fuel to run efficiently all day and without the pre requisite you will simply be struggling to fight off a bad attitude and headache all day long. Keep it healthy and include some juices, oats, milk and nutrients to keep you energized all day as well.
Practice Meditation: Daily practice of meditation only for 15 minutes can increase productivity, relieve stress and amplify happiness. It leads to a greater level of relaxation, helps in boost self confidence, increases blood flow and slows the heart rate. Gives a run to your usual cup of coffee, doesn’t it?
Write Down Your Thoughts: The act of writing can get your creative juices flowing. You can pen down the dreams of the previous night or goals for the day. Writing down the scattered thoughts of the day can also help in scheduling and organizing the work.Or just jot down the highlights, in bold and bright so you can clearly see it!
Music Therapy: Music helps in beating the morning blues so wake up to your favourite song by listening to the happy beat. It can help enhance your emotional state and evenenergize you. You could keep switching your alarm tone to your favorite song, that’ll ensure a fine mood.
Prep up the Night Before: Spending a few minutes the night before to get prepared for the next day can save you a significant amount of time in the morning. Before going to bed, pick out what you’re wearing to work and make a quick to-do list with the essential things to get done the next day.Not only will these actions save you time, but also make the morning less stressful.
Aromatherapy: The sense of smell bypasses the cognitive brain (the part which deals with worries). Light some incense sticks e.g. champa or sandalwood. Burn some aromatherapy oils such as lavender or rose. You can even wear your favourite perfume or cologne to beat stress. There’s so much just a whiff can do.
Breathe: The more anxious you become, breathing becomes shallower and higher in the chest. Consciously lengthen your breath, breathing deeper into the belly. Count to three as you breathe in and four as you breathe out. Not only will this calm your nerves, it’s also supposed to be a good warm up exercise for the abs (Just saying!) 😛
Smile:When you take that first look in the mirror at yourself, smile. Reduce your stress first thing with a splash of smile-producing, feel-good endorphins. Then keep smiling, even if you have to fake it the first couple of tries. You’ll feel the worry lines fade away.
Every morning routine sets the tone for the rest of the day. Reclaim your mornings or at least a small part of your mornings with these easy tips.
