Bollywood actors have sported the most versatile styles of wearing eyeliner which became in vogue during that time. Starting from the winged, bold, and smudged to graphic eyeliner, this eye makeup has evolved over the years to emerge as the perfect way to enhance your looks.
A simple stroke of eyeliner can give you a dramatic, flirty, bold or chic look. Take a look at how this classic eye makeup has evolved from the yesteryear to the modern times.
1940/50s: During this time, actors like Madhubala and Meena Kumari made very simple and classic style statements. Where Madhubala chose to go with just a whiff of kohl on her lower lash line, Meena Kumari started the trend of the elaborate winged eyeliner. The kohl-lined eyes of Madhubala gave the doe-eyed and sweet look whereas that of Meena Kumari’s made her eyes more expressive and pretty.
1960s: The 1960s saw the advent of the dramatic dual winged eyeliner which was sported by actors like Sharmila Tagore and Asha Parekh. This style was all about the strong extended wing which gave a very sultry and sensuous look to the eyes.
1970s: This period saw the soft yet strong eye makeup look on actors like Rekha and Parveen Babi. Using the minimalist approach, the eyeliner on the upper lash line was light whereas that on the lower lash was heavy.
1980/90s: With actors like Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai, Urmila Mantondkar and Sridevi ruling the screens, the eyeliner also became bold and more appealing. Thick lines of eyeliner were adorned on the upper lash and gave out a very feminine yet sensuous look.
2000s: With the turn of the century, the eyeliner also evolved significantly. Bipasha Basu and Celina Jaitley in the first half of the decade showed off some heavily smudged eyeliner look. In the second half was seen the understated and light eyeliner styles sported by movie stars like Katrina Kaif.
