To the outside world, we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other’s hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time.
Siblings: We love to hate them but still can’t imagine life without them. They annoy us, know all our strengths and weaknesses and are usually our first best friends. Looking back in life, there is a hoard of memories that we share with our siblings. Fighting, calling each other names, blackmailing and forgiving is one pattern that we remember very well.
Let’s take a trip down the memory lane and look at the moments we all must have shared with our siblings at some point or the other.
Partners in Crime: So the parents decide to go out and leave you in the hands of the elder brother/sister. Staying up late to watch the T.V. series your parents didn’t let you watch is the first thing on the to-do list. The next thing on the cards is a party with the pals. A wild booze party which in no time becomes the wildest one you’ve ever had. The next morning, the house looks just the way your parents left it like.
Hard work pays off.
Endless Gossip Sessions: Whether it’s a relationship problem or a general discussion on how life’s treating you, siblings make for the perfect listeners. Remember those endless conversations when you talked about your newest crush…the new girl at the coaching class and how she looked at you? Or how the random relative posted weird comments on your Facebook wall? Siblings are always there for us, no matter what the situation is.
Fights & Blackmailing: Anything and everything can spark off a battle between siblings. Be it who gets the TV remote, who gets to eat what or who gets a new phone, siblings don’t really need a reason to fight. Since they are the keepers of our darkest secrets, they leave no opportunity to blackmail us. They wait for the perfect moment to remind us that they know what our parents do not. There goes the plan to beat him/her once in our lifetime.
Sharing is Caring: “It’s mine too because it’s yours. Aren’t you my sister?” One sentimental dialogue we’ve all heard. Precisely because we were born to the same parents gives our sibling all the rights to hijack our wardrobe, pass on our clothes to their friends, strut our stuff with full confidence and still complain.
Life’s unfair. Ain’t it?
Crazy Moments: Remember doing all the crazy things you tried out with your sibling? Irritating your nosey neighbors, playing pranks on friends together, planning surprises for your parent’s birthdays and anniversaries. The list just goes on and on!
